Choosing the right foundation color is often a hit and miss procedure. You have to try it to know wheter it suits you or not. If you choose it strictly based on your complexion you may not have the desirable results.
Here are some easy steps to find the right foundation shade for your skin tone:
1.Find your undertone
First of all, determine your undertone. You should find if your complexion has cool, warm or neutral undertone. One easy trick to do this is to look at the color of your veins. If they appear blue or purple you have cool undertones. If they appear olive or green you have warm undertone and if it is a mix of both then you are neutral.
2. Test it
Apply some foundation along your jawline using a Q-tip and test it under differend lighting environments. If the color of the foundation dissapears over your skin and looks invisible then this is your perfect match. If you have richer skin tones you could also try it on your forehead, mouth and nose.
3. Test it on your neck
Also, a very important step in order to choose the right foundation for you is to try putting some on your neck. You should check your foundation on the neck because it covers all your face and ends up to your neck.
If you decide to choose your preferable color strictly based on how it looks on your face you may have this “mask” effect on your neck. You know what it is, when everybody can see the difference between the color of your face and your neck. But if you choose a color based on how it looks on your neck, even if your face is a bit lighter or darker it will be fully covered and it will perfectly blend with your neck color. Nobody will see the difference and the untrained eye will not even know whether you are wearing makeup or not.
4. Adding some color
If you have trouble choosing between 2 different shades then go with the lighter one because it is easier to add some custom color using a blush or a bronzer. You could also combine it with a darker foundation or a tinded moisturizer.
Following these steps it will be easier for you to find the right foundation shade for your skin tone. You will still have to try a lot of foundations and this could be quite expensive for you, this is why I suggest you to start trying some of the inexpensive drugstore foundations we present in this article in order to save some money – and time.
